Week 1 - Self Study/Tutorial 1 (Updated)
Welcome to the first installment of the self study series for KIT207 - Game Design and Production.
The first task this week was to follow a video tutorial "Blender 2.8 How to Create a Wooden Barrel" - by Studio Kavod.
The task proved difficult as a first time Blender user, and after many attempts at locating certain parts of the user interface in version 4.3 I accepted defeat and downloaded version 2.8.2 to follow along exactly.
The following barrel was produced using the tutorial:

The second task for week 1 was to model an object you would find at a Tasmanian tourist attraction. For this task I have decided to model the Cape Bruny Lighthouse.

Modelling the lighthouse used many techniques learned in the barrel tutorial but several other tools in blender were explored, such as using a reference image and exploring the use of a mesh add-ons to do the opposite function of an inset.
The work-in-progress model for this week can be seen below. This model will be adapted further as skills in blender increase. I would like to add the windows, door and railing, unfortunately this is currently the pinnacle of my blender skills.

UPDATE:
Using a tutorial for modelling a house by MK Graphics, Modeling a low poly house | Blender 3.4 Tutorial, I was able to add in some windows. The railing was also based on a technique using geometry nodes found in another short tutorial (1-Minute System To Generate Pipes, Railings, & Ladders | Blender 4.0 by Samuel Sullins).
This method allowed the use of manipulating a circular planes vertices to create each point of the railing and create the four tiers of the railing around the lighthouse. The final lighthouse model can be seen in the figure below.

A low poly forest pack was downloaded from the unity store found here: Lowpoly Forest Pack. This pack was used to populate the scene in unity.
